About The Eliava Phage Therapy Center
The Eliava Phage Therapy Center is a leading clinic that utilizes a unique method for treating bacterial diseases with bacteriophages, providing treatment for patients from abroad. It embodies the best qualities of modern medicine, including talented doctors with extensive clinical experience in phage therapy, a continually updated scientific foundation, a diagnostic center, an in-house laboratory, and production facilities based on the Eliava Institute of Microbiology, Virology, and Immunology. Over its 100-year history, the Eliava Institute has amassed the largest collection of bacteriophages, establishing itself as a global leader in this field.
Our primary goal is to assist individuals facing complex, sometimes dire situations in the battle against disease and to promote phage therapy as one of the optimal solutions in the era of antibiotic resistance.

Bacteriophages (bacteria + Gk. phagos – devouring) are viruses that selectively infect only pathogenic bacteria. These ancient inhabitants of the planet act as natural regulators, limiting the spread of bacteria. Bacteriophages are widely distributed in nature: every gram of soil, every cubic centimeter of water and air, and all plants and animals contain millions of phage particles.
The mechanism of action of bacteriophages is based on the following principle: by infecting bacteria in the infection focus, phages destroy them, reproducing tens of thousands of similar particles in the shortest time. Each phage acts specifically, targeting only the bacteria it is intended to destroy. Thanks to this, phages are entirely harmless to the human body and can be used from the first seconds of life, including during pregnancy and lactation. However, the precision of phages in targeting requires special attention, as their administration without prior thorough examination of the specific patient becomes meaningless. Therefore, in each individual case, a corresponding individual prescription is determined. Bacteriophages will completely eliminate pathogenic microorganisms, but only if selected correctly.
